Reduce vandalism, unauthorized entry, theft of copper, or theft of the entire a/c unit by installing an air conditioner (a/c) security cage.
I know myself, one Saturday not only did my own seller call about his a/c unit having been stolen the night before while he was home, but then an agent who had another house listed nearby said her sellers unit was taken. Even at a nearby listing the agent reported theft at his sellers home too.
Available in many styles and finishes, only your budget and the size of the unit determines which one is right for you.
I would suggest maximizing what your budget will allow, since many home insurance policies do not fully cover the unit if it is stolen I am told. Better to spend a little more to have just the right security cage for the job, than to cut costs, have it stolen anyway and your insurance not cover it fully, or at all.
Home and Office Air Conditioner Compressor Cages
These are the basic cages for both residential and commercial air conditioner compressors. You will want to know the size and dimensions of your unit before ordering.
Also, I would suggest reading the features of each cage, the type of tools you will need to install, and whether it’s a DIY job. Also, note how it has to attach to the pad of your a/c unit, you will want to know how to do that.
Read the reviews too, so you get the best security cage for your hard-earned dollars.
Air Conditioner Decorative Enclosures
If you don’t want to look at the cage for your a/c unit all the time (though most are pretty nice), or if you just want to cover up your unit, these enclosures may help. You can also block the noise of the compressor with these decorative enclosures. This is needed if your a/c unit is near your deck, patio space, our outdoor gazebo.
Air Conditioner Covers for Fall and Winter Months
During the winter months when your air conditioner is not in use, you may want to cover it up with a cover designed to protect your unit from the elements. Most will allow air flow in and around the unit.
Having the cover breathe not only prevents moisture and condensation build up, but also may prolong a/c unit life since it will help to prevent rust.
Home Security Camera System
If you don’t want to buy a cage, or if you want an added bit of security, a wireless or wired home security camera system, may be a good deterrent. You can see options below. Click on any image for more details, specifications, and reviews of the product.
Flood Lights and Outdoor Lighting
Another possible security option for your outdoor a/c unit, is the tried and true flood light. These days, you have many more options than you used to have, and many units even have security cameras, or wireless notification that the light has been activated.
